Copyright (C) 1993 by Chris Dingwall
DISCLAIMER
----------
This program and other files associated with it are not guaranteed
to be bug free or virus free. Chris Dingwall is not responsible
for any damages of any kind, including profit losses and data loss,
that relate directly or indirectly to these programs and files.
DISTRIBUTION
------------
You may distribute this program, as long as it is in unmodified
form with all the files originally included.
WHAT DOES SFMAGIC DO?
---------------------
SFMAGIC is a comprehensive file management program for SPITFIRE BBS
Software. This program allows you to: Add Files/Descriptions;
Edit Descriptions; Move Files; Update File Size/Date; Delete Files;
Mark Files "OFFLINE"; Sort Files; Tag/Untag Files to perform group
functions; etc., etc., etc................. In other words, total
management of your SFFILES.BBS for all file areas. Multi line file
descriptions for SPITFIRE 3.3 and higher are supported.
CD-ROM
____
YES - CD-ROM is supported! SFFILES.(xxx) supported automatically if
found in the DISPLAY directory. Note: E (edit feature) , U (un-
catalog feature), and the sorting are the only commands available when
working on a CD-ROM file area.
IMPORTANT!!!!
If you are running CD-ROM areas, make sure you read the FIXSFCD documentation
included in this archive. If it doesn't exist, you need to get a new copy
from one of the BBS's listed below.
If you don't use FIXSFCD, and you needed to, you might be losing some of your
descriptions from your SFFILES!!!!!!
SPITFIRE Toggles - YES, aware.
Supports the first letter capitalization in description if toggled ON in
SPITFIRE.
Supports Multi-Line descriptions. SFMAGIC will read your SF files, and see
how many description lines you have set in SPITFIRE. If you only have one
line set, SFMAGIC will only let you enter one line, if you have 4, it will
let you enter 4 with word wrap.
Supports "Uploaded By" if toggled ON in SPITFIRE.
NOTE: SFMAGIC will add the Sysops MESSAGE NAME to the Uploaded By in the file
description. For example, if you use handles on your board, and your real name
is John Doe, but you use "The Terminator" as your message name (The name that
you log onto your board as, and receive messages to), the description would
read:
ANYFILE.ZIP 100,000 03-15-93 Description here..
Uploaded By: The Terminator
Limits - only the memory in your particular system.
SFMAGIC will support up to 1000 file areas, with 10,000 files in each area,
however it is limited by the free memory that you have available on your system.
REGISTRATION
------------
This program is NOT CRIPPLED in any fashion! Also, it does NOT have
any built in delays OR "nag" screens! You may use this program for
30 days. After that period, you must register - no, the program does
NOT "expire" - but, it should be worth $1.00! Yep, only one buck will
give you a clear conscience! Mail your check, money order or even
a single greenback to:

USAGE
------
Unzip all files into your SPITFIRE home directory, (usually C:\SF).
Change to that directory and type SFMAGIC.
You will see the Main Menu screen showing all of your file areas. The
cursor may be moved via the arrow keys or PgUp/Dn. Select the file
area you wish to modify. Upon selection, you will see that file
area SFFILES.BBS (without header). This screen is where you will
actually work on your file areas and file descriptions.
You can get help from any screen by using the ALT-H Command.
COMMAND LINE
------------
SFMAGIC has one command line switch that you can use. If you type
SFMAGIC /S , SFMAGIC will load, sort all areas, and then quit. This would
be usefull as a nightly event to sort all your areas, and get that upload
directory into order.
Following are the commands and their functions for the different screens:
-Select An Area To Work On -
Alt-H......... Help
Alt-J......... Shell to DOS or any child program.
Alt-X......... Will end program.
Alt-S......... This will set default sorting preference for each area.
You can select to sort the area by Size, Date, or Alpha (default)
Note: This sorting preference is used only for F2 - Sort all
areas. When in an area, F2, F3, and F4 still sort by Alpha,
Date, and Size. This will create a small file called CONFS.DAT
in the directory of SFMAGIC. If you would like to have all
areas back to the default (alpha), just delete this file.
<ENTER>....... Selects a file area to work on.
Up/Dn Arrow... Moves the highlight bar to different file areas.
F2............ Sorts ALL file areas, and creates a back
up file you may wish to remove later.
-Select A File To Work On -
PgUP,PgDn,Home,End,Up/Dn Arrow...Moves the highlight bar.
Alt-H......... Help
Alt-J......... Shell to DOS or any child program.
Space Bar..... Tag and Untag a file.
Alt-T......... Tags all files.
Alt-U......... Untags all files.
Alt-R......... Rename the file in SFFILES AND on the disk.
Alt-E......... Edit the current description one line at a time! Will allow
use of Insert, left or right arrows, delete, etc...
Alt-Z......... Insert your BBS ad into .ZIP file. Note: For this to work,
you MUST have the program RECOM.EXE in your path or the current
directory.
M............. Move a file (after hitting M you will select the area to
which you wish to move the file).
Alt-M......... Move ALL tagged files.
D............. Delete a file.
Alt-D......... Delete ALL tagged files.
U............. Uncatalog a file (removes listing from SFFILES.BBS, but does
not delete file).
F1............ Resize all files in area. (If a file listed does not exist,
it will be marked OFFLINE, and if a file is smaller than
1,000 bytes, a 0, will be added to the size).
F2............ Sorts this area Alphabetically.
F3............ Sorts this area by Date, oldest to newest.
F4............ Sorts this area by File Size, smallest to largest.
F5............ Change the date of the file in the SFFILES. (Not on disk)
F9............ Checks SFFILES listing against files actually on the disk, and
if a file doesn't exist, asks if you want to uncatalog it.
E............. Edit a file description (Will support as many description lines
as you have set in your SPITFIRE toggles).
F8............ Checks current directory and will catalog new files
(will add file(s) to SFFILES.BBS and allow you to enter
a description.
ESC........... Quit and save (will only prompt you to save if SFFILES.BBS
has been changed).
Ctrl-U........ Uncatalogs ALL Tagged Files From The SFFILES listing.
--------------------------------------
What's Planned?
---------------
The first thing to do is get this version out and make sure that any bugs found
are squashed. Ideas for future versions include :
Auto convert any archive style (ZIP,LZH,ARJ)
Rename the file in SFFILES and on the disk.
Shell to child program (Editor) or to DOS shell.
Showing Full description in the files windows.
Checking to make sure catalogged files exist besides sizing them.
These are all I can think of now, but ANY comments or suggestions are welcome!
THANKS!
-------
Many thanks go to Rob Dingwall, Paul Staton, Steve Newman, and Rodney Newton
for testing this program and helping me out with problems!
A little exploring should allow you to become familiar with the
commands. Thank you for trying SFMAGIC. Comments and/or
suggestions are always welcome and you may contact the author
